Are you interested in astronomy?

Sorry, I haven't written anything here for a while now. I've been around here in Sydney, but today it's raining so I can write something.

So what have I done? Well, Chris, one of my flatmates had his birthday. We celebrated by going to the Rocks for a nice dinner. Two German girls are living here in this house at the moment as well. They will go to Melbourne in the end of this week. Lots of germans surrounding me, whaaa! :D

Yesterday, me and Andrew, my other flatmate, went bowling. I lost the first game but won the two games after. It was so much fun! We should do that more often!

I've been to IKEA as well. Mmmm, lots of Swedish food. Bought salty liquorice and crispy bread. Yummie!

Andrew is complaining about me being such a girly girl. I'm always going "Whaaa!" for every cockroach or spider I see. You can hear Andrew saying "Now what?" after all the "whaaa, wheee, aaah, gaaah, iiiiih". I've also been hunting mosquitoes in my room at 4 am. Quite an interesting hunt: 1 - 0 to the mosquitoes... Damn mosquitoes!

Yesterday I was about to go to the beach when I realized they had a tsunami warning for all the beaches. It's becuase of the quake in Chile. A bit disappointed but I don't want to take any unnecessary risks.

Ehhh... So.... My summary of Australia so far is:

Australia is a beautiful country, but I have some problems with the people here. Don't get me wrong, they are really nice and friendly... But it feels like I've been thrown back in the 50's sometimes. Well, a modified 50's. I've met a couple of guys here and they all seem to be a bit.. how shall I put it? Well, they idea of a good living is that the woman should stay in the kitchen. Guys talk about how much beer they drink, which I probably did when I was 19 years old yeah... But these guys are around 30-35 years old. The girls in the city are dressed like 15 year olds, with short short skirt and try to show as much skin as possible. Apparently guys like that here, but for me it just looks desperate. Some people can menage to pull that style off, but most of them can't. They try to hard which makes it look too desperate. Andrew seems to aggree with me here: Most girls look terrible and guys just want doormats.

But despite of that I like it here! The weather is nice most of the time, so far... Cockroaches running around, mostly outdoors tho, is not the most pleasant thing but I have two guys who can pretend to be men for a while and chase them away.

Now I just got a mail from my mom to read so I'm off. Take care all friends! Miss you very much!

About Uppsala University

Uppsala University (Swedish: Uppsala Universitet) is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded as early as 1477, it is the oldest such institution in the Nordic countries, and for centuries has been one of Europe's most renowned seats of learning.

One of the main centres of higher education in Europe, the university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a Great Power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.

Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three 'disciplinary domains'. It has about 40,000 students (20 000 full-time eq.), and about 2,000 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of 4,000 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,000 employees. Of its annual turnover of around 4.3 billion SEK (approx. 715 million USD), approximately 60% goes to graduate studies and research.

Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in the area around the cathedral on the western side of the River Fyris. Despite some more contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala's historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.
